04 Oct Facing the Unknown: Luca’s Story
October 8, 2021
Brittany and Corey Milstein’s infant son Luca had been throwing up his meals for nearly a week when they decided to take him to the doctor. Luca was a small baby to begin with, and when they discovered he’d lost more than a pound, the family was sent straight to the hospital an hour away from their home in Queen Creek, AZ.
Doctors weren’t sure what was wrong. Luca faced a battery of tests and would have to stay in the hospital for at least a few days. Brittany and Corey took one look at the hospital room. Their hearts sank when they saw a single recliner for the two of them.
The next morning – after a less than restful night – the hospital social worker told them about Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Central and Northern Arizona.
“It was such a blessing in that moment because we didn’t know how long we were going to be there.”
The Milstein’s ended up staying a week at Cambridge House. They appreciated having a place they could go for a shower or a nap. The breaks helped them stay fresh so they could understand what the doctors were telling them about Luca’s condition and test results.
Luca was eventually treated for a malrotation in his small intestine. Today, he hasn’t shown any signs of the illness that brought him to the hospital.
Brittany and Corey are so grateful for their time at Ronald McDonald House® and the support they received that they decided to donate to help families who come after them. And they know that if they need us, we will be there.
